TB Awareness Training – Part of ‘The Truth About TB’ Programme

Rates of tuberculosis have been increasing for over 20 years in England, becoming more concentrated in certain population groups and regional pockets of high incidence. It is crucial that people with TB are diagnosed and treated quickly to minimise transmission to others.

However, many people do not know the symptoms, are unaware that TB is curable and treatment is free, or have unfounded fears or beliefs about the illness.

Freshwinds is collaborating with TB Alert, the UK’s national TB charity, to spearhead the Department of Health’s commitment to raise awareness of tuberculosis amongst the most vulnerable groups. Freshwinds will be holding a series of TB awareness training workshops to promote knowledge, guidance and access to resources to raise awareness of TB amongst professionals and organisations working with at-risk communities.

Disability Grants Website

Do you have a Disability?

Are you a parent or carer of a Disabled child or adult?

If so, use this website to save time finding Disability Grants.

Charities and Trusts provide funding towards the high cost of disability equipment, holidays, housing, days out… in fact anything above and beyond the normal costs of everyday living.

“Over the past 15 years my family has used grants to help fund trikes, wheelchairs, adaptations to our home, medical equipment and specialist holidays for my disabled son.

“With this support, my son was able to cycle back from school with his friends, join us for a family meal in the kitchen and experience the exhilaration of wheelchair abseiling.

“His new wheelchair funded by one of the charities on this site not only increased his independence and mobility but also his street cred – Absolutely essential for a teenager”.

Searching for extra funds takes time – in between work, hospital appointments, caring, therapies; and the hundred and one other things we all have to juggle every day.

So save time by sharing Knowledge, Information and Resources via the Disability Grants Website.

Big Lottery Fund’s Silver Dream Fund

Big Lottery Fund’s Silver Dream Fund, in association with the Daily Mail, offers an exciting new opportunity for groups to test out a range of ideas about new ways to support older people, whilst building on the wealth of experience and skills that they have to offer to others, including their families, neighbourhoods, and local communities.

The challenge is to come up with a great idea that will pioneer ways to help vulnerable older people deal more effectively with life-changing events.

Ideas also need to reflect five themes:

· Helping older people to help themselves

· Working with others

· Managing better

· Volunteering

· Testing new ways of working

Our aim is to generate learning about what works so that this can inform our future investments and also the ageing agenda in terms of both practice and policy. We are interested in testing out new ideas or growing/replicating what works in new ways – this is not for just doing more of the same. We will work with a range of selected projects, supporting them with learning and development opportunities and with our funding.
